10-Minute Morning Tai Chi & Qigong for Beginners

August 14, 2026 · 4 min read

A gentle 10-minute morning Tai Chi and Qigong routine for beginners — wake up stiff joints, calm your mind and start the day grounded. Press play and follow along free.

Most bodies wake up before the mind does — stiff shoulders, a tight lower back, joints that could use some oil. The usual answer is coffee and a screen. This routine offers the opposite: ten minutes of slow, flowing Tai Chi and Qigong that loosen the body joint by joint, so the day starts calm instead of rushed.

▶️ The full 10-minute routine, filmed on the coast of Tenerife. Press play and follow along — no experience or equipment needed.

Why the morning is the perfect moment

Overnight, the joints produce less of the fluid that keeps them gliding smoothly — that is the morning stiffness most people over 40 know well. Slow, circular movement is exactly what brings it back. Not stretching hard, not pushing: just gentle, repeated motion.

There is a second reason. The first minutes of the day set the tone of your nervous system. Reaching for your phone starts the day in alert mode; ten minutes of soft movement and steady breathing start it grounded. Same day, very different ride.

What's inside the ten minutes

Nine gentle movements, each one explained as we go:

  1. Body Rotation — wake up the spine and hips
  2. Swinging Arms — release the shoulders
  3. Throw Away the Trash — let go of yesterday
  4. Single-Arm Circles — open the chest for a full breath
  5. Rising & Expanding Qi — build calm energy
  6. Repulse Monkey — flow and coordination
  7. Crane Spreads Its Wings — balance in motion
  8. Golden Rooster — a friendly balance challenge
  9. Standing Meditation — a quiet close

Everything is soft and low-impact — made for beginners, and just as suitable if you are over 50 or coming back to movement after a long pause.

Before you press play

Bare feet or flat shoes, a spot the size of a yoga mat — that's all. Move gently and stay within your own range; if a movement doesn't feel right today, make it smaller. This is general wellness content, not medical advice — if in doubt, check with your doctor first.
