The 8 Immortals Qigong Movements

n this 2.5-hour Qigong workshop, you will embark on a transformative journey that blends ancient practices with modern wellness techniques to enhance your health, vitality, and inner balance. This workshop features the 8 Immortal Movements, a graceful and powerful Qigong set from the Immortal Arts Academy of Sifu Jesse Lee Parker, renowned for its profound health benefits. Through fluid and intentional movements, you will open energy channels, improve circulation, and promote relaxation while strengthening your connection to your inner energy.

Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or new to Qigong, this workshop offers a supportive space to learn, grow, and explore the elegance of these time-honored practices. Beginning with deep abdominal breathing to connect with your Dantian center, the body’s core of energy, you will then engage in a series of gentle yet powerful movements designed to harmonize mind and body.

The session concludes with self-massage techniques to stimulate circulation and energy flow, followed by a calming meditation to leave you feeling balanced, centered, and rejuvenated. Experience the profound grace and healing potential of the 8 Immortal Movements and unlock a deeper connection to your body and energy.

Abdominal Breathing to Activate the Dantian Center

The workshop begins with a special warmup designed to bring your awareness to the Dantian center, the body’s center of gravity and energy. This area, located a few inches below the navel, is considered the body’s source of vitality and power. Through deep abdominal breathing, you will focus on expanding and contracting the abdomen, nourishing your Dantian center and cultivating the foundational energy needed for the practice. This breathing technique will help release tension, calm the mind, and center your awareness.

In this first phase, you will learn how to breathe with intention and connect to the energy within your body. Deep abdominal breathing not only improves circulation and oxygenates the body, but it also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping you enter a relaxed, mindful state. This practice is an essential foundation for the Qigong movements that follow.

Movement to Open and Energize the Body

The second section of the workshop focuses on eight transformative Qigong movements, each designed to target specific meridians and energy channels within the body. These movements promote health, release stagnant energy, and increase the flow of Qi (vital life energy), bringing balance to your entire system. Here is a brief overview of the Qigong forms you will experience:

  • Gathering Heaven & Earth
This movement is both grounding and energizing. It opens the kidney and urinary bladder meridians, helping to purify the blood and oxygenate the body. As you move through the form, the focus on your breath and posture will help massage the internal organs, particularly the kidneys. This gentle movement is excellent for promoting lymphatic flow, improving circulation, and boosting the immune system.

  • Raise the Back to Enliven the Body
This form opens the lung and large intestine meridians, balancing the flow of Qi between the upper and lower body. By opening the spinal cord and relaxing the nervous system, this movement helps alleviate tension and stress. It also stimulates the flow of cerebral spinal fluid, which nourishes the brain, making this form particularly beneficial for mental clarity and relaxation. Additionally, this form supports blood pressure regulation and helps reduce hypertension.

  • Dog Searches for their Tail
A deeply nourishing movement, Dog Searches for their Tail opens the urinary bladder and kidney meridians, activating the third eye (Celestial Eye) and promoting the flow of energy down the Conception Channel. This form helps relax the spine and nervous system, enhances brain function by stimulating the flow of cerebral spinal fluids, and opens the sacral area, supporting lower back health. The gentle stretching and twisting involved are especially beneficial for relieving tension in the lower body and the spine.

  • Rotate the Arms to Embrace Yin Yang
In this form, the focus is on gathering and circulating energy from nature. By rotating the arms and moving with intention, you will nourish the energy within your Dantian center, the core of your vital energy. This movement opens the 8 Spiritual Vessels and the 5 Energy Gates, allowing for a smoother flow of Qi throughout the body and promoting emotional balance. It enhances your connection to the surrounding energy field and harmonizes the internal and external forces within.

  • Reach to Heaven & Earth to Open the 3 Gates
This form targets the spleen and stomach meridians and helps to open the spine, promoting spinal health and nervous system relaxation. By stretching and opening the 3 Energetic Gates (located in the spinal cord), this form supports the body’s natural detoxification processes. It also helps regulate blood pressure and alleviate hypertension, making it an excellent practice for reducing stress and promoting vitality.

  • Swallow Returns to the Nest
This movement opens several meridians, including those related to the spleen, stomach, lungs, and large intestine. The form gently massages the liver and kidney organs, promoting the circulation of lymphatic fluids and enhancing overall detoxification. Through this movement, Qi energy circulates smoothly throughout the body, helping to clear blockages and reduce stagnation. This form is particularly useful for supporting the body’s digestive system and relieving tension in the abdomen.

  • Monkey Opens the Cauldron
Monkey Opens the Cauldron focuses on opening the lung meridian, expanding the chest cavity, and enhancing your ability to inhale deeply. This increased circulation of oxygen throughout the body helps to invigorate the system, improve lung capacity, and energize the mind. The form also activates the perineal floor, increasing vital energy and stimulating the flow of Qi through the lower body. This movement helps strengthen the respiratory system and supports greater vitality.

  • Young Child Prays to Buddha
This form opens the heart and small intestine meridian, helping to regulate blood pressure and relieve hypertension. By nourishing the essence energy in the kidneys and balancing the heart and kidney energies, it creates harmony within the body. This movement is designed to calm the spirit and reduce emotional tension, making it an excellent form for emotional balance and mental clarity.

  • Reach to the 4 Directions – Gather the Golden Elixir
The closing form of the practice, Reach to the 4 Directions, is a powerful movement that opens all major meridians in the body, nourishing the internal organs—especially the kidneys—and refining and strengthening the Dantian center. This final movement gathers healing energy from nature, refining and circulating it throughout the body to nourish the spirit and strengthen the energy field. It serves as a closing ritual, helping to integrate the benefits of the practice and restore balance to the body.

Stimulating Circulation and Energy Flow

After the forms, you will engage in a self-massage practice to further enhance your energy circulation. Self-massage is a vital tool in Qigong practice as it helps regulate blood flow, release blockages, and promote relaxation. By using gentle pressure on key acupressure points, you will stimulate energy flow throughout the body, particularly in areas that hold tension or stagnation. This technique will leave you feeling lighter, more relaxed, and balanced.

Concluding with Inner Peace

The workshop concludes with a calming meditation session designed to center your energy and promote deep relaxation. Meditation will help you integrate the benefits of the movement and massage, bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to the mind and body. By focusing on your breath and the flow of energy, you will cultivate a state of mindfulness and calm that will stay with you long after the workshop ends.
